Tens of thousands of WABC listeners heard in shock, live on the radio, a car crash into an SUV while the driver was talking to hosts Curtis Sliwa and Ron Kuby.

Cheryl Picker was trapped in her vehicle when it rolled over after being hit by another car. She was on her cell phone talking about the Michael Jackson case when the accident occured.

Listen to this dramatic tape.

THE PRANK PHONE CALL

While at KOA in Denver, I decided to dial up directory assistance and recite the lyrics from the Johnny Rivers song, Memphis. It's about a phone call to the operator and as you'll hear the woman didn't have a clue of what I was doing.

OLIVER NORTH COMES UNDER FIRE WHILE TALKING TO THE NEWSGUY

During the height of the attack on Iraq, Col. Oliver North, came under fire during an interview with WABC's George Weber. The tape was rolling as the new FOX television anaylist hunkered down near Baghdad.

WABC producer Aric Schmidt compiled sound from September 11, 2001 and mixed it with music for this reflective piece on the one year anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

911 Deer Tape

About six years ago, a funny tape started making the rounds at radio stations across the country. It's supposedly a man calling 911 to report that he was attacked by a deer, which he put in his car after running it over. It's authenticity has long been questioned, but it's definately worth a listen. (warning: obscene language)

Mansion Tour

In 1997, Mayor Rudy Giuliani was running for re-election as Mayor of New York city. After some arm twisting, the Mayor allowed me to become the first broadcast reporter to tour Gracie Mansion, with his honor. Have a listen to part of that.

Saddamathon

During the Persian Gulf war, Saddam Hussein was public enemy number one----which got us thinking at KOA radio in Denver. Why not a parody of a tele-thon? This was the result.

The day the music died.....

April, 23, 1988 was a painful day for the thousands of people in Denver who grew up listening to 95-KIMN. For over 30 years, KIMN was the predominant top-40 radio station in the city---and one of the nation's most influencial. A few weeks earlier, KIMN general manager Wayne Phillips held a news conference to make the announcement.

It's his story....

In 1988, I heard the story of a Kansas Farmer--who along with some of his old war buddies were going back to Vietnam to help their government remove land mines. I was touched by the story and wanted to go along. The station said no. So, I proposed flying to Kansas instead. After interviewing Mike Wallace, I provided him with hours of tape and recorders to capture his trip in sound. Mike became the reporter ---as you'll hear in just one segment of the ten-part series.

Paging Mr. Weber, Mister George Weber

This was a way for me to do something I've always wanted to do and get away with it. Page myself at the airport. I did while at KIMN radio in Denver in 1986.

The Snow Storm That Wasn't

In the Winter of 2000, the New York city area was belted by several big snow storms---but many of them turned out to be duds. The media was accused of getting carried away with their storm coverage. That got me thinking---how could we have fun on WABC with a snow storm that wasn't.

SuperDiamond

My friend Randy Cordero has appeared on several of my talks shows--most of them while I was working at KGO in San Francisco. We freaked out listeners by refusing to tell them who "my special guest" was----announcing they'd know when he sang. He did---and women were calling up in tears thinking it was the real Neil Diamond. Instead, they got the "Surreal Neil".

Bible Thumping

In 1996, while covering the Acadamy Awards for the WABC morning show, I ran into this Bible preacher on the streets of Los Angeles...
